We support the growth of CoW Protocol, CoW Swap, MEV Blocker, and CoW AMM, and fund values-aligned projects through the CoW Grants Program. CoW Protocol stands as the second-largest DEX aggregator by monthly volume and the foremost intents-based exchange. MEV Blocker participates in approximately 4% of all Ethereum transactions, setting the standard in its category. CoW AMM is the sole live AMM designed to shield LPs from LVR (loss-versus rebalancing). About the Role

Location: We are a fully remote team, and while we hire globally, this role prefers candidates based in Europe or within +/- 4 hours of CEST time.

Position: Full-time contractor

We are searching for an enthusiastic, self-driven, senior backend engineer to help us build the next generation of decentralized trading protocols. As a dedicated backend engineer, you will gain ownership of our existing backend services and influence the creation, design, and execution of future features and products. You will tackle technically challenging components of our off-chain services and developer-facing APIs, ensuring the delivery of reliable and high-performance features to enhance CoW Protocol.

Responsibilities

• Architect and design off-chain services (core auction protocol and orderbook) to accommodate feature growth and evolving blockchain requirements.
• Focus on writing concurrent backend systems in Rust, while interacting with Smart Contracts in Solidity.
• Collaborate with researchers and the product team to deliver new solutions for complex technical problems.
• Produce high-quality code from concept to production, including state-of-the-art monitoring.
• Maintain and improve the reliability of existing features and participate in the on-call rotation.
• Perform comprehensive code reviews of colleagues’ contributions to our open-source codebase.

• Backend Code: Rust, Tokio, Cargo, Git
• Infrastructure: Pulumi, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Grafana, Prometheus, Elasticsearch
• Other codebases: TypeScript, Python, Solidity

Who You Are

• At least 1 year of production experience with Rust (C++ experience is a bonus)
• Excellent computer science, programming, and algorithmic skills
• Experience in web3 (preferably DeFi and Ethereum blockchain)
• Skilled in operating, maintaining, and architecting complex software systems
• Committed to the quality, readability, observability, and testability of your code
• Proactively provide technical direction to enhance performance, prevent issues, optimize data usage, and refactor the codebase
• Team player with strong communication skills, sharing expertise with others
• Effective collaboration in a remote-first team on a large, open-source codebase
• Senior-level capability to mentor colleagues and provide direction
• Eager to explore and gain experience with Ethereum
